About Mardijah

"I found Subud in London and was opened there in 1964. Came to Sydney, Australia with my family in 1970. I have been involved in community development projects professionally. Served as a local helper, National helper, with ISC, editing Subud News and on the World Congress team when it was in Sydney and as International Helper over the years.

I have always loved reading and writing. I moved to Central Australia in 1996 and was involved with a dynamic writers group helping form a publishing enterprise - Ptilotus Press. My work was published in our anthologies: Living Room,The Milk in the Sky and Fishtails in the Dust. I have also had poetry published in Shifting Ground, Poets Union Anthologies, SWIM Anthologies, Landmark, Northern Perspective, Yellow Moon and Overland. Plus broadcast on Radio National's Poetica, read at Darwin Writer Festival, Alice Springs Writers Festival and Varuna, in the Blue Mountains.  Now I live in the green river delta of the Shoalhaven in southern New South Wales."

Sample Poem - (in memory of Ramdahn Simpson)

Farewell to a Mariner

Last night the sun set and the moon rose

sailing the soft ocean of the western skies

fragile as a Viking ship carved from a walrus tusk

carrying your warrior's soul to safe harbour.

Last year I planted jacarandas: seed children of your tree

in memory - to mark each corner of your green land

then rode the descendant of a Dyak death ship

up the green arterial waterworld of your lagoon.

Two years back I launched your husk snug in its craft

into the arms of the silver sand beside the big blue bay

but in my heart I saw the proud black prow bursting the

waves as the flames waved farewell to your soaring spirit.

Next year I will go to the beach where our children played

fold a flotilla of paper boats (remember the story?)

wax night lights for cargo. Lit and launched at dusk

they will jewel the velvet sea until they burn and drown.
